Re (Ra) – Egypt - One of the Egyptian gods
shown with a solar disk. Center of worship was Heliopolis. Later associated
with Horus as Re-Horakhty. Also combined with Amun to form Amun-Ra, a solar
creator god.

Summary:

Horus is the son of Isis and Osiris and is
known by
many different names. He is the patron deity of Lower Egypt, but also
is worshipped all around Egypt under different personas and
representations.
Horus’ father, Osiris, is killed by Set. Horus desires
revenge and so he battles Set and in the battle Horus grasps one of
Set’s testicles and rips it off; Set then gouges out one of Horus’
eyes. His mother, Isis, heals his eye and that eye becomes a symbol of
renewal which explains the famous Egyptian symbol The Eye of Horus.
The battle between Set and Horus continues on for almost 80 years and
is seen as an extended metaphor about the battle for dominance between
Upper Egypt and Lower Egypt. Eventually, Horus is the victor and has
dominion over all of Egypt.
The Pharaohs were seen as avatar’s of Horus.
