Do You See What I See?

As is my seasonal wont, I’ve made some changes to the website design: a little cleaner, more spare, less eye-clutter. The new design renders perfectly in every browser — Firefox, Mozilla, Opera, Konqueror, Epiphany, Galeon, Netscape — except one: you guessed it, the ubiquitous Microsoft Internet Explorer. I’ve received a couple of missives from regular readers that the header image and menu do not render correctly in IE 6.

If you are a user of IE, please drop me a line (use the comment link below) and let me know how the site looks in your browser. Then, go directly to Dave’s IE Notes Page, and read what’s there. Then, check out the Browse Happy site for a good guide to alternative browsers (i.e. safer, faster, more user-friendly).

In the meantime, I’ll work on getting the header issue fixed (and there is possibly a sidebar text color issue also) for those still living with the MS bug.

Responding to Apollo and Jamie:

Responding to Apollo: yup, I have a skewed number of Firefox users also. More than half of my visitors are using Mozilla/Gecko browsers, which is refreshing. IE still hangs in there, though.

About Jamie’s query: Evolution is a very nice open source groupware application that runs under Linux. Paradoxically, it’s owned by Novell, which also owns the terrible groupware application Groupwise (that many people use).

Looks fine from my oh so techno-politically incorrect IE(6.0)perspective. I like the combination of the spring green and autumn orange.
I’m working on a groupware project (researching) right now. Does anyone have any favorites they’d like to share?

On the topic of browsers, I’ve recently noticed that visitors to my site split evenly at 45% between IE and Firefox. I’ve read that IE still holds a larger share than that on the net as a whole, so obviously my readers have adopted Firefox more quickly than the general population. It leads me to wonder if online journal and blog reading prompted the switch or if those who made the switch are more inclined to read such material.

The site looks fine in my version of IE (5.5). Nice redesign.
