Ross A. Laird newsletter
Dear friends, colleagues, and students:
Beginning In September, 2010, I will be teaching two courses and facilitating various workshops. The courses are focused on creativity, culture, and personal development, and are for those interested in educational experiences that are purposeful, engaging, fun, and useful. The goal with these courses is to help students rediscover the authentic joy of learning. The workshops are focused on the growing issues surrounding technology use among youth (and adults) and the crucial importance of mentorship for young people.
Looking for a relaxing, fun, and purposeful retreat to welcome the sunny summer months? Join Ross Laird for four days of creativity and illumination at Hollyhock retreat centre.
Hollyhock is nestled between the forest and ocean on the southeastern tip of Cortes Island, British Columbia, about 160 kilometres (100 miles) north of Vancouver. In the midst of Hollyhock’s stunning natural beauty, this workshop will explore creativity is an authentic devotional and healing path. The flavors and shades and peculiar demands of creativity assert, at every turn, the work of hands as an exemplary guide in the unfolding of awareness. Explore — collaboratively, playfully — creative work as devotion, as revelation, as a gentle opening polished by the shapes of beauty.
Through the work of hands — in art, poetry, movement, writing, sculpture, music, and ritual — the workshop will help you reach for the essence of creative endeavor. Learn how to follow the simple alchemy that begins in the hand as it opens the palm and reaches, with supple fingers, outward. This reaching, in which the hand and heart together grasp the world, is the core of creative work. No prior creative or artistic experience is expected or required.
Dates: May 10-14
Tuition: $495 CDN.
Four nights (meals and accommodation extra).
